Do you remember when you were younger, a lot younger?…I’m talking about elementary school when you’d go next door (or call) to ask your friend to “come out and play!” Tweet
What changes have you noticed since then?
Seasons of life change just like the weather, and over the last couple weeks here in NW Arkansas, the weather has been changing and leaves are falling from the trees. It is finally past Halloween and we are looking forward to enjoying the beautiful fall days of November. Speaking of autumn leaves, let’s get back to my original idea–kids playing & adults aging. I’ve had a so much fun watching my kids outside this fall. They are raking leaves, piling them up, and of course jumping into the leaf piles.
One day last week they spent all morning building the tallest pile of leaves possible…climbing all over it, burying themselves, and then running down the hill and jumping into the pile with reckless abandon!!
…It made me wonder, Why we “grownups” don’t play like that anymore?…When did it stop?!?…
When did we stop playing?…Why did we stop enjoying ourselves in God’s creation? Does being an adult somehow change everything, even the fun stuff?
I know, I know, your life is busy, and so is mine.
But I don’t believe that is the only reason. I don’t think it is just our “busy schedule.” I think it is our mindset that has changed over time too.
Somewhere down the line we justified our lack of energy. I think somewhere along the way we became accustomed to our aches and our pains. Somewhere along the journey of life, someone told us that when we get older we start slowing down and losing function.
And the worst part is this…sometime between THEN and NOW, we started to believe them.
Listen ya’ll, I know it is comfortable and “safe” to blame your sickness, pain, and problems on your family genetics, your job, and above all, your age. But I want you to consider the importance of making a change for the better, and trying a different approach that may actually reverse the effects of the aging process and help you Be Your Best.
Before I give you the “Top 3 Tips” this week, I’d like to send out a thanks to Dr. Ian Bulow, Blair upper cervical Chiropractor in Cranberry, PA near Pittsburg. His newsletter article was my inspiration.
TOP 3 TIPs to Reverse the Aging Process–Action Steps you can take TODAY:
1) Don’t buy into the myth of “AGING = ACHING.”
If you are suffering or struggling with pain, let’s figure out the reason, and then take specific steps to CORRECT the CAUSE. Your body is capable of an incredible healing, a Genesis (new beginning) that is an actual health-changing event. Getting yourself balanced and connected is vitally important. The number one reason our health declines is stress, and one of the largest stress factors we face is physical…most of which comes from poor posture. So straighten up your posture, stay connected (brain-to-body), and clear up your thinking!
2) Your body was designed to move and breathe.
(and BTW, Exercise is NOT a 4-letter word!).
GET OUTSIDE!!! The great outdoors offers more than sitting on a lawn mower. Get out there and play! Run, skip, jump, skate, ride a bike, play ball, and breathe in deep breaths of crisp fresh air along the way. The best way to start feeling better is to START MOVING and increase your Oxygen intake!!!
3) Start eating better, and by “eating better” I’m not saying change everything you eat this month.
In fact, I usually recommend against diets for most people.
In order to slow and even reverse the aging process, you need to eat more natural, more nutritious foods.
“God’s diet” VS. “Man’s diet” is simple to understand, for example, God did not put a Coke machine and a Nacho-flavored Slim Jim jerky dispenser in the Garden of Eden.
The bottom line of food is simply this: Eat food that is as close to its natural state as possible AND do your best to avoid “food items” that are packaged, processed, or produced in a factory.
So, to wrap up Dr. Blackketter’s Top 3 Tips, I’d like to encourage you to take some time to revive your inner soul. Let your inner child have some fun. Renew your passion for life. And then decide to make a lifestyle change that allows your body to move up to the next level and truly revitalize your life.
Changing your thinking, posture, and lifestyle will change YOU for the better.

Dr. Blackketter,
This is an excellent post. Thank you for the life-bettering information. YOu are an asset to your community!
I like to watch the clouds regularly. Sometimes I even lie down in the grass and watch them. Resting after playing like a child is important too! There are definitely some things we should never outgrow. Thank you, Dr. Blackketter, for such an important reminder.
Thanks Jennifer. I certainly remember enjoying the big sky and lovely clouds of the great American SW desert, but I didn’t know you had any grass in AZ…! ;o)
Eat less food. Eat healthier food. Exercise. Don’t smoke. Play. Get adjusted by your chiropractor. These simple lifestyle choices all have a positive long-term impact on your health.
