Genes – Can I blame my DNA for my health problems?


GENES – “Can I blame my inherited DNA for my sickness, problems, disorders & disease?”

We are hearing many reports and “scientific” studies about genes and disease. I’m sure you’ve heard them say that diabetes, cancer, heart disease, and many other health problems run in your family’s genes, and even diarrhea too! Did you know diarrhea runs in your genes…(jeans)?!? Just kidding. I couldn’t resist a little dirty joke! But seriously, we need to cut through some of the baloney and scare tactics in the headlines and get to the truth about how the body really works. There is no reason to fear

Your genes do not necessarily determine your destiny! You don’t need to be afraid of your family health history. In fact, you can’t blame your family tree for your level of health (or lack of it). I’m not suggesting there are no hereditary diseases, but I am saying most of the top killers in America (and the most costly problems draining our healthcare dollars) are lifestyle issues, not genetic problems or hereditary conditions.

There is hope.

Your genetic makeup (DNA) is like the blueprint for you.

Cell's genetic expression is a response to Environmental factors & Stress

This blueprint contains all of your positive and all of your negative possibilities. Some scientists have described DNA as simply the “recipes” available to the cells in your body. The unique genes in your DNA are like special directions in the cell’s recipes, but they are only expressed in response to external stimuli on the cell.

In other words, your body (made of trillions of cells) will open up your unique “cookbook” and follow the recipes inside you based on what is happening to you. This science is called epigenetics. Scientists observe receptors in and on the outer cellular layer (cell membrane) responding to its environment. The receptors react and then the cells “express” differently. This outer layer signal system triggers the genetic material inside the cell’s nucleus to begin a new activity. Non-genetic factors actually cause your genes to behave differently. These genetic (and epigenetic) expressions even change the appearance or phenotype of the cell as well as the function of the cell.

Your body is designed to respond and adapt to what is happening to you and maintain balance and normal function on the inside. When something in your environment unlocks or activates a specific gene, you literally “turn on” that function inside your body. The majority of these recipes (genetic expressions) followed by your cells are good. They produce normal healthy function, continue working as expected, maintain balance and ease, fight off infections & kill cancer cells, and effectively adapt to changes in the environment.

But like a computer system, the body responds to what you do to it (garbage in = garbage out). The typical stress of daily life plus some of our bad habits produce free radicals and cause oxidative stress in our bodies that can ultimately damage and mutate our genes. Over time, this stress brings about negative changes in our cells.
Stress is anything that causes your body to change or adapt. Stress can be physical, chemical, or mental/emotional.
Examples: falling off a step ladder, car wreck, bad posture, emergency situations, breathing smoke, vaccine shots, drugs, work stress, financial pressure, relationship problems, loss of a loved one, and major life changes.
Heightened stress levels activate a “survival” mode or adaptive physiology. This “fight or flight” mode is okay for brief periods of time, but it’s detrimental over the long term. Damaged cells in a stressed-out body begin losing their ability to adapt properly. Less functional cells pass on damaged DNA to new generations of cells. Stress and this diminished or survival adaptation weakens and overwhelms normal life processes.

We have a recipe/blueprint for every situation. Your body is always changing and adapting every day, every second, actually. And it can only change one of two ways…either STRONGER or weaker. Regardless of your genes, the choice is yours.

OR will you express the Negative possibilities in your DNA?
There are two very different options or two potential directions you can go:

+ a good attitude
+ healthy lifestyle behaviors
+ consistent vibrant clear brain-to-body connection
= good news
(constructive biochemistry, adequate absorption of nutrition, proper circulation & oxygenation, normal hormone regulation, adaptive cellular physiology, balance, harmony, function, ease)

Your Genes (whether good or bad)
+ a bad attitude
+ poor lifestyle behaviors
+ diminished and intermittent brain-to-body connection
= bad news
(destructive biochemistry, incomplete digestion, poor circulation, diminished immune function, altered cellular physiology, degeneration, inflammation, imbalance, pain, dysfunction, dis-ease)

The science of epigentics shows us that there are only 3 things you need to express life fully and adapt properly to your environment: attitude, lifestyle, and connection. Like an electrical circuit, your innate life force (inborn energy source) sends messages (mental impulse current) from the brain stem through the nerves to every cell in the body. This vital communication organizes & coordinates every single function of life.
