Now that we are already 10 days into this New Year, how are your 2011 resolutions going?
Are you growing stronger and healthier?
Have you started shedding any of those extra pounds from the holidays?
If not, you can always make a change today…
“A year from now you may wish you had started today.” – Karen Lamb
I’m glad to say I’ve kept my new year’s resolutions, so far…well, actually I broke one of them (it was just a temporary lapse in will power though and thankfully I’m back on track now). Free little lesson from the doc:
If you mess up, don’t be too hard on yourself. Just start up again wherever you left off and keep moving forward.
Anyway, 2011′s changes have been a good experience for me, and in more good news, the M & Ms are all gone now!
Have you ever wondered what changes a Chiropractor wants to see in his health?
Well, just like you, I hope to move towards being my best…consistently experiencing more Health, Wellness, and Wholeness…“happy, healthy, strong”…and living up to my God-given potential.
Here are my 2011 New Year’s Resolutions:
1. Exercise 5 days every week
I’m not strict about the amount of time or intensity level, because variety (and having fun) are better goals than an unrealistic amount of time that make me feel guilty whenever I miss the mark.
Here is a quick sample of some activities which give my body a variety of strength training and cardiovascular challenge that I enjoy doing–>
–hike in the woods
–walk briskly on multi-use path (or treadmill if weather is bad)
–playing tag with my kids
–jog and/or run up hills for higher intensity workouts
–Nordic track xc ski machine (I’d prefer cross country skiing if we get enough snow)
–and mountain biking and road cycling of course!
2. Eat more fresh fruits & veggies
Although my family already has a healthy diet, I still have room for improvement. So this year I will just add another serving of fresh raw fruit and/or vegetable into my diet each day.
This is a very easy way to increase your antioxidants. Just add a healthy snack mid morning, juicing fresh produce through a juicer machine, or simply add them to any menu.
3. Avoid eating after dinner (and stay away from “binge” foods).
My only “allowable evening snack” is popcorn. I prefer air-popped with a small amount of melted butter mixed with extra virgin olive oil (about 2 or 3 teaspoons total fat) and a dash of salt.
Popcorn’s high fiber content and low calories (if you control the butter) is a better choice than the binge foods like ice cream, cookies, chips, and the aforementioned M&M candies. Plus, popcorn is filling without all the unnecessary fat and extra sugar content found in most desserts or snacks.
4. Drink lots of healthy water – 1 ounce per 2 lbs of body weight – Daily.
This is my minimum goal: 1 oz times 1/2 of my weight in pounds.
For example, a 128 lb. person should drink 64 oz (1/2 gallon) each day.
A 168 lb. person should drink 84 oz daily…this number seems very familiar to me…
If you weigh 250 lbs. your daily water intake should be about 1 gallon!
In case you are wondering about the best water to drink, please ask the doctor<--Click link-->Dr. Blackketter would love to answer your questions! Our office is also happy to provide 30 days supply of FREE filtered Kangen water. All you need to do is contact us. This ionized, micro-clustered, alkaline H2O, actually has some wonderful antioxidant benefits to it. Plus the alkalinized pH level of the water makes it easier for your body to balance its fluids and cleanse itself of acid and toxins.
5. Stay on target mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
This last resolution is quite personal, so I won’t go into all the details here on my blog…but let it suffice to say I am striving to think, talk, and act more like Jesus in 2011. He is the best example I know and IF I want to succeed in anything else in my life and practice, this step toward a new life and a better way of living may be the most important resolution of 2011.
Absolute perfection isn’t practical, but I believe it is a worthy focus.
We should allow room for grace and 2nd chances.
Make a little positive change each day.
Better results require better choices.
BTW, I believe you have the power to take small steps (and make small healthier choices) each day, and these steps will move you in the right direction.
It is a process and it takes time.
