Have you ever noticed that some of the most profound accomplishments in people’s lives often took a very long time to realize? The “overnight success” was really years in the making. I think the confusion or amazement we have about success in others may come because we forget to remember some basic advice…maybe you heard a parent or grandparent say, “Do your best.”
Possibly I can alter that phrase from “do your best” to “BE your best.” Although life is complex, it seems that truth and hope and joy and health can be very straightforward. Perhaps we’ll be able to do our best once we begin living up to our potential…BEing our best.
I was talking with an old friend (I can call him old b/c I’ve known him since 1995) about a dramatic change he’s made in his health and lifestyle recently. It took a pretty severe wake up call back in late 2009 for him to realize that he’d lost some rather important function, but he’s made some changes and is feeling happier, stronger, and more at ease lately @rockychrysler.
Great goals can be reached when we simply stick to the plan (whether it is your exercise habits, healthier diet, or building a better relationship with your family). You can be your best…go for it!
Here are some basic, yet life-altering if you follow them, quotes:
Practice makes perfect.
(my piano teacher actually tweaked this one to say, “Perfect practice makes perfect!“)
Perseverance —
>Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
>There is no substitute for hard work. ~Thomas A. Edison
>Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th. ~Julie Andrews
>Keep moving forward.
(as told by Rocky Balboa)
>Never give up.
Patience –
>Those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength. (Isaiah 40:31)
>Patience and Diligence, like faith, remove mountains. ~William Penn
>Patience is the companion of wisdom. ~Saint Augustine
So, to wrap up this blog, let me remind you (encourage you) to make a little change in the right direction every day. You can truly “live your potential” but it takes patient perseverance on the process of working to BECOME your best, the best “you” imaginable.
More about those little changes in future blogs…

“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12
Praying for God to fulfill all that He has purposed. “He who called you is faithful, he will surely do it.”
For His glory…
In His love, Jennifer
